SDG 16 Toolbox

Good Practices Toolbox on SSG/R and SDG 16

Since 2019, DCAF has implemented a project which seeks to position Security Sector Governance/Reform as a powerful policy tool for realising SDG16 and the broader 2030 Agenda.

Based on the conviction that good governance and accountability of security and justice institutions are preconditions for achieving SDG 16, the project has identified good practices of how three security sector oversight actors – civil society, parliaments, and ombuds institutions – have contributed to realizing SDG 16.

This database presents these good practices in one easy-to-access platform. It is intended to illustrate how civil society, parliaments and ombuds institutions can and have contributed to realizing SDG 16, as well as to inspire further initiatives and policies in this domain.

Notes:
  • The inclusion of a practice in this database does not mean that it can be universally recommended nor that it is without limitations. Instead, this database aims to inspire further initiatives and policies that are adapted to the needs of the specific country and context.
  • The database only includes good practices from the countries and actors targeted by this project.
  • As the project remains ongoing, practices are continuously added to this database.
Good practices can be searched for by actor, through selecting the relevant actor tile to the right, or by using the below database.

DCAF’s SDG 16 project seeks to position Security Sector Governance and Reform (SSG/R) as a key policy tool for the realization of SDG 16 on peaceful, just and inclusive societies. The project focuses on three oversight actors — parliaments, civil society, and ombuds institutions — and develops SDG 16-specific guidance that supports SSG/R in the context of the 2030 Agenda.
