Developing strategic SSG/R skills with the African Union We were recently in Addis, for a joint workshop with the African Union Commission, on strengthening the Union’s strategic security sector governance and reform capacity. With lessons learned from The Gambia and Lesotho, this meeting allowed us to take stock of the work done so far and discuss concrete recommendations. Local ownership is a key value for us, so at DCAF we are continuously working with our partners to develop strategic security sector reform skills and frameworks that allow us to enshrine this. 12 Mar 2025

Assessing justice programmes in Bangladesh We were recently in Dhaka with a team of international experts to assess a programme funded by the European Commission on access to justice. During our week there, we spoke to a range of stakeholders including civil society representatives, lawyers and judges, and community members to gather their perspectives on justice institutions. We also met with the Senior Secretary of Muhammad Yunus’ Chief Advisor’s Office and the Special Officer of the Chief Justice of Bangladesh, which provided valuable insights into the current reform initiatives. 11 Mar 2025

Welcoming representatives from Ukraine Last month, we held a working visit for representatives from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, General Staff, and the National Defence University in Geneva. Together, we discussed a variety of topics from strategic communication and cooperation with civil society during wartime, to the implementation of international humanitarian law and gender in the armed forces.
