The 2024 Asia-Pacific SSG Forums in Melaka, Malaysia marked the fifth and final version of the current format. The network came together from 7-11 October 2024 and focused on changes in the security environment across the region over the past five years.

This forum report summarizes the most important takeaways on contemporary security challenges and the national SSG/R agenda across the regions, with more detailed analysis and discussion of the situation in Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and the South China Sea.  

It summarizes achievements in SSR and of the network itself over the past half decade, as well as a discussion of missed opportunities and the future of the network as an association.

Few platforms exist where participants from so many different backgrounds, sometimes with significant underlying international or domestic tensions, can speak openly about security issues and the role that governance can play in improving the functioning of national security sectors across this large region.
