In The Gambia, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) undertook a 2021 study on sexual harassment in the workplace in the country, and subsequently developed a Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Policy.
Per the recommendation of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission of The Gambia, the government has moved to adopt the Policy at the national level. This case underscores the important role of ombuds institutions in developing policies to reduce all forms of violence, which advances SDG 16.1, and in strengthening the accountability of public institutions in line with SDG 16.6.
