The CECORE liaises with the National Focal Point on Small Arms to establish Peace Committees in Uganda

In Uganda, the Centre for Conflict Resolution (CECORE) has engaged with the National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to establish and train Peace Committees, meant to mitigate and prevent violent extremism by acting as an early warning and early response mechanism.

By sensitizing communities in the borderlands of Uganda to the dangers of small arms and the existence of voluntary disarmament programmes, for instance, Peace Committees have raised the capacity of local communities to prevent and respond to the dangers of illicit small arms and light weapons. This advances progress on SDG target 16.4, on reducing illicit financial and arms flows.
