The Australian Human Rights Commission triggers National Inquiry into sexual harassment in the workplace

In Australia, the Human Rights Commission conducted a national survey on the prevalence, nature, and reporting of sexual harassment in the workplace, gathering a 10,000 person sample that included people who work in the Public Administration and Safety industry and the Australian Defence Force.

After the results showed that 33 percent of Australians had experienced sexual harassment at their place of work in the previous five years, the Australian Sex Discrimination Commissioner announced an unprecedented National Inquiry into sexual harassment. Initiatives such as this show how ombuds institutions can help address gender-based violence and protect vulnerable groups.
