Ombudsperson broadens access to justice by establishing local offices in ethnically diverse municipalities in Serbia

In Serbia, the Protector of Citizens (Ombudsperson) has broadened access to justice by establishing local offices in three municipalities with a high proportion of ethnic Albanians.

In multi-ethnic societies with a history of conflict, ombuds institutions play a key role in facilitating access to justice, particularly for ethnic minorities. In doing so, they help build trust in public institutions and facilitate people-centered justice, thereby contributing to several SDG 16 targets, most notably 16.3 on the rule of law and access to justice.
