In Iran, United for Iran has created and maintains the Iranian Prison Atlas (IPA) to advocate for the improved treatment of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience held in the country.
The IPA contains information on political prisoners and prisoners of conscience, and has been used by various entities, including UN agencies. Local researchers collect data provided by families, media, and CSOs, including on prison conditions and which courts have imposed sentencing, and verify this data before publishing it in the IPA. By comparing the data with official information provided by Iranian authorities, international pressure can be exerted on those authorities, to advocate for improved treatment of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in Iran.
