In Nigeria, the Standing Committee on MDGs (and then, SDGs) has successfully lobbied for the creation of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies within the National Assembly, to support legislative development, including the integration of the SDGs.

The Institute is considered the first of its kind in Africa and is being scaled up to provide legislative capacity development throughout West Africa. It is affiliated with the University of Benin (Nigeria) and, in addition to providing specialized post-graduate degrees in legislative studies, also develops important resources focused on promoting awareness of the SDGs within the legislative sector.
