In The Gambia, parliamentarians established a mechanism that facilitates oversight of national security policy by the Committee on Security and Defence.

Through this mechanism, members of the Committee can submit an official request for information or clarification to the government in relation to national security policy. They may also pose written questions to the government, either regarding its general national security policy or any operations under the charge of a specific security department.
