Democratic Control Over the Georgian Armed Forces Since the August 2008 War

1 January, 2010

Abstract

The principles of Georgian security sector governance have undergone serious changes since the country regained independence. During this period, the Georgian Armed Forces (GAF) remained a significant political institution in Georgia. The articles presented in this study examine how effectively the principles of democratic governance have been introduced into the Georgian defence sector and political system as a whole and evaluate if those undertakings meet the requirements of democratic management and control.
