DCAF will participate in several events at the UN Climate Change Conference in Baku.
"Serving in the storm: strengthening national security institutions to provide accountable and effective security, for the State and its peoples, during the climate crisis"
Led by the United Nations Security Sector Reform Unit
15 November - 11.30-13h
Under the thematic track 3 “Energy/Peace, Relief and Recovery"
About the event: To best serve their respective States and peoples during the climate crisis, national security sectors require urgent strengthening to mitigate, adapt, respond to and cooperate during the climate crisis. This is both an operational imperative and, in the context of the Paris Agreement, a necessity to effectively fulfil their respective State’s legal and/or moral obligations under international climate and human rights law. This event will showcase recent developments in this area, drawing on the experience of international organisations and United Nations Member States, for the benefit of COP29 participants, with a view to stimulating urgent action in this important area.”
