DCAF Director Nathalie Chuard and our team concluded a mission to Damascus as part of our ongoing efforts to promote inclusive engagement on security sector governance and reform in Syria. The visit included discussions with Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Yasser Al Jundi and a broad spectrum of civil society actors—from human rights groups and feminist organizations to The White Helmets. This engagement reflects DCAF’s commitment to supporting a Syrian security sector that is accountable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of its people.
23 Jun 2025DCAF facilitated a two-day peer exchange in Serbia between computer security incident response teams from the Western Balkans and the Office of the Commissioner of Communications of Cyprus.
The meeting offered valuable insights into Cyprus' cybersecurity setup, including how they manage their security operations center and digital defence tools.
This exchange is part of the WB6–EU Cybersecurity project, with support from GIZ and the German Federal Foreign Office.
With support from DCAF and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Lebanese Armed Forces Civil-Military Cooperation installed solar-powered streetlights in Deir Al Ashayer and Yanta.
This initiative strengthens security and mobility in underserved areas while promoting renewable energy and community resilience. It also supports the development of practical project management skills within LAF CIMIC, reinforcing their vital role in local stability and good governance.
During DCAF’s last visit to Ethiopia, our delegation led by DCAF Director Ambassador Nathalie Chuard met with leadership at the Ethiopian Police University, a long-standing DCAF partner.
Deputy Commissioner General Mesfin shared his appreciation for five years of cooperation and outlined key reform priorities — from professionalising the police force and promoting inclusivity, to increasing women’s participation and enhancing policing in strategic sectors.
DCAF delivered the first segment of the European Security and Defence College core course on security sector reform in Vienna, Austria. Hosted within the Austrian Centre for Peace programme and supported by the Austrian Ministry of Defence, this seven-day training brought together over 30 professionals to explore the challenges, opportunities, and core principles of security sector governance and reform.
