The Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) is dedicated to improving the security of states and their people within a framework of democratic governance, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. DCAF contributes to making peace and development more sustainable by assisting partner states and international actors supporting these states, to improve the governance of their security sector through inclusive and participatory reforms. For our Operations Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Division, we are looking for a highly dedicated professional to be our next:

Project Assistant (100 %)

 

Location:                             Geneva, with occasional travel to the region

Starting date:                   1 July 2019 or as per agreement

Duration:                             24 month fixed-term contract, with possibility of extension to a maximum of 24 additional months

 

The role              

Reporting to the heads of the North Africa and the Middle East Desks, the Project Assistant will support the MENA Division’s team in the development, implementation, follow-up and coordination of activities.  

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of security and justice sectors reform projects in the Middle East and North Africa region
  • Conduct research on issues relevant to security and justice sector governance and reform in the region and assist in the design of strategic engagements in the region
  • Draft quality narrative and financial proposals and reports, within established deadlines
  • Assist in the drafting and editing, in English, French and/or Arabic, of publications, annual and other reports and communication tools
  • Liaise, as appropriate, with field-based staff and field offices on operational and administrative matters, including help in the identification and management of international experts and consultants
  • Contribute to the development of a monitoring and evaluation system to integrate into DCAF’s results-based management (RBM) process
  • Contribute to the organization of workshops and events as necessary
  • Carry out logistical and administrative tasks for the smooth running of planned activities, as well as for field missions’ planning and implementation

 

Your experience

  • University degree in political science, international relations, law, development, security studies or related field
  • Prior experience in project and grant management for an international organization would be an asset
  • Excellent command of English; knowledge of French and Arabic is a distinct asset
  • Good English writing skills and capacity to write and edit reports for publication
  • Knowledge of budget tracking and management tools
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Cultural sensitivity, ideally familiarity with the Arab world
  • Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is a pre-requisite
