The Justice Initiative collaborates with partners to successfully advocate for the inclusion of an indicator on civil justice within SDG target 16.3

Based on research conducted in over 100 countries, the Justice Initiative joined partners including the World Justice Project (WJP) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to successfully advocate for the inclusion of an indicator on civil justice within SDG target 16.3.

Alongside member states, the Justice Initiative and its partners advanced their advocacy for a new civil justice indicator through the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDGs). In parallel to formal processes, the Justice Initiative also convened an informal working group that included representatives from the WJP and experts on statistics and data collection. These efforts resulted in a 2019 IAEG-SDG recommendation for the addition of a civil justice indicator within SDG 16, which was formally adopted shortly thereafter as indicator 16.3.3.
