Fit-for-the-Future Peace Operations: Advancing Gender Equality to Achieve Long-Term and Sustainable Peace
On 9th June 2022, DCAF will launch the Global MOWIP report, entitled Fit-for-the-Future Peace Operations: Advancing Gender Equality to Achieve Long-Term and Sustainable Peace.
The Measuring Opportunities for Women in Peace Operations (MOWIP) methodology was launched in 2020 under the auspices of the Canadian-led Elsie Initiative, to identify evidence-based opportunities and barriers to increase women’s meaningful participation in peace operations. To date, the MOWIP methodology has been piloted in seven troop- and police-contributing countries (TPCCs) and eight security institutions and a growing number of TPCCs
The Global MOWIP Report provides evidence of how gender equality is central to fit-for-the-future peace operations. This evidence is translated into international policy and practice insights that can be leveraged to contribute to the assessment, design, and implementation of fit-for-the-future peace operations.
The event will be held in hybrid format and chaired by the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations in New York and co-sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Norway and by the Permanent Mission of Uruguay .
Discussions will aim to:
• Discuss the findings and trends with regards to women’s meaningful participation in peace operations, identified in the Global MOWIP report.
• Identify and encourage policy and operational action to leverage the MOWIP findings to contribute to fit-for the future peace operations.
