Workshop in Niger for peace and social cohesion DCAF and the Directorate of Public Security of the National Police of Niger delivered a workshop for traditional chiefs in Tahoua. The aim was to strengthen customary authorities’ involvement in promoting peace and social cohesion, and in implementing the National Strategy for Community-Based Security in the Tahoua region. 21 Sep 2026

DCAF Days 2026 in Brussels This week in Brussels, we explored with representatives of European Union institutions, member states, partner countries, international organizations and civil society, how security and defence investments can be managed effectively and build long-term resilience. Discussions spanned three contexts: Syria's transition, Europe's Eastern neighborhood’s exposure to hybrid threats, and Africa's connectivity ambitions. These three days reaffirmed the importance of cooperation on security sector governance between the EU, its member states and partners. 17 Sep 2026

Level 2 Training on Security Sector Reform in Nairobi This week in Nairobi, Kenya, we were proud to continue our close collaboration with the International Peace Support Training Centre. Over the 7-day programme, we co-delivered the Level 2 training course on security sector reform and disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration, supported by Switzerland. Building on last year's pilot, we welcomed back 21 practitioners from across East Africa and the wider region, most returning from the Level 1 course in May. 14 Sep 2026

Training of Trainers on gender mainstreaming in Zambia DCAF is delivering a Training of Trainers on gender mainstreaming for the Zambia Police Service Gender Unit. The training brings together 11 gender trainers to explore practical approaches to gender in policing, gender bias and resistance, adult learning, intersectionality and gender analysis, as well as tools and techniques to make gender training more engaging and effective. The impact goes beyond this week’s training, as the participants will become part of a wider effort to cascade gender knowledge across the Zambia Police Service.   07 Sep 2026

Urban resilience and good practices in Tetouan As part of our multi-city study, DCAF collaborated with city-level actors in Tetouan, Morocco, to gather experiences and good practices. This city has a sophisticated network of actors working within a participatory legal framework that facilitate officials, civil society and citizens to contribute. Northern Morocco is a place of environmental, demographic and economic change - as well as adaptation. This way it offers many perspectives for cities around the world. 03 Sep 2026
