With a ten-person team, the Gender and Security Division leads DCAF’s work promoting gender equality by providing policy advice, conducting practical research and implementing operational projects.
For our Gender and Security Division, we are looking for an experienced, dynamic, and creative individual to be our next:
Finance Assistant (50%)
Starting date: 1 April (earlier date negotiable)
Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Division (HoD), the Finance Assistant supports the accounting and finance management of the Division. The Finance Assistant will process payment orders, verify accounting entries and provide corrections, monitor the financial status of Division budgets, liaise with project staff on financial matters, produce financial reports, support audits and provide admin support as requested.
Budget monitoring: monitor and regularly report to the HoD on the financial status of budgets, including cash-flow status, and alert the HoD of any financial matters that require management attention.
Produce financial reports as requested and submit changes/corrections to the finance department.
Process payment orders, expense claims, invoices and other accounting documents, handle the finance related signatory books and monitor payments.
Keep central electronic files for expense reports and payment orders, make photocopies and scans of transactions and maintain a physical filling system of the financial and admin documents of the Unit for internal reference, audits and donor reporting purposes.
Support DCAF’s Finance Unit in preparing documentation for audits, when required.
Provide admin support to the Unit when needed.
At least three years of professional work experience in accounting and finance, preferably in the field of international development.
Proven track record in managing externally funded project budgets, producing financial reports for donors and preparing documentation for audits.
Fluent in English; good knowledge of French is highly desirable.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relationships in a dynamic, multi-cultural environment.
Excellent financial management and organizational skills.
A diploma in finances/accounting is desirable but not required.
Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is a pre-requisite.
